Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Perfect Scan iPhone app and the getperfectscan.com website and services (together, "Perfect Scan"), operated by Kamran Imam ("we", "us"). By installing or using Perfect Scan you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Perfect Scan.
1. What Perfect Scan does
Perfect Scan photographs paper documents and produces cleaned-up digital copies. Two kinds of output exist:
- Scan: produced on your iPhone by cropping, straightening and adjusting the lighting of your photo. It does not add or change content.
- AI-restored page: produced only when you choose Restore with AI. Your photo is sent to an AI image model that generates a new image intended to look like the original document restored to good condition.
2. AI-restored pages may contain errors
An AI-restored page is generated by an artificial-intelligence model. It is not a photograph or a copy of your document. Although Perfect Scan instructs the model to preserve every character and verifies each result against on-device text recognition, generative models can and sometimes do alter, add or omit letters, numbers, dates, amounts, codes, barcodes, signatures, logos and other content, and the verification can miss such changes.
You are solely responsible for checking every AI-restored page against your original document before relying on it for any purpose, including tax, accounting, expense, insurance, warranty, legal, medical, financial, employment, immigration, academic or official uses. Where accuracy matters, use the Scan or the original photo, which remain available on every page, or keep the paper original.
Every AI-restored page carries a permanent visible label ("AI Restored by Perfect Scan · May contain errors") and, in exported files, embedded metadata that identifies the image as AI-generated (including the IPTC "Digital Source Type" marker). You must not remove, crop out, cover, hide, obscure or strip this label or metadata, and you must not present an AI-restored page as an unaltered original, as a photograph or scan of the original, or as an authoritative record.
If you or anyone using your copy removes, crops out, covers or strips the label or metadata, or presents an AI-restored page as an original, you do so entirely at your own risk and against these Terms. We have no responsibility for any consequence of such use, and you agree to indemnify us as set out below.
3. Third-party AI processing
Restore with AI depends on fal.ai, an independent third-party service that we do not own or control. When you tap Restore with AI, the cropped page image leaves your device and is processed by fal.ai. Processing may take place on servers outside your country.
We send each request with a flag asking fal.ai not to store the image or the result, but we cannot verify, audit, monitor or guarantee that the request is honoured. We make no representation or warranty about fal.ai's security, confidentiality, retention, deletion, availability or use of anything sent to it, and we are not liable for any act or omission on its part, including any loss, disclosure, breach, retention or misuse of an image. Your use of Restore with AI is subject to fal.ai's own terms and privacy policy in addition to these Terms.
You are responsible for deciding what you send. Do not use Restore with AI on any document you are not willing to have processed by a third party on the terms above, and do not use it on material you are not permitted to disclose to a third party. If you are not willing to accept this, do not use Restore with AI: scanning, edge detection, perspective correction, on-device cleanup, text recognition, search and export all run on your device and are unaffected.
We may change, add or remove processing providers at any time without notice.
4. No warranty
Perfect Scan is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that any output, in particular an AI-restored page, is accurate, complete or a faithful reproduction of your document, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, damage, claim, cost or expense arising from or related to the accuracy or inaccuracy of any output of Perfect Scan, including AI-restored pages, or from your reliance on any output, including without limitation lost profits, lost data, rejected claims, penalties, fines or disputes with third parties. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to Perfect Scan is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
6. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Perfect Scan and its owners, officers, employees and contractors from any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees), whether brought by you or by a third party, arising from or related to: (a) your reliance on any output of Perfect Scan; (b) any AI-restored page from which the visible label or embedded metadata has been removed, cropped, covered or stripped, whether by you or by anyone who received it from you; (c) any presentation of an AI-restored page as an original or authoritative document; (d) your use of Restore with AI on any document or material you were not permitted to disclose to a third party; or (e) your breach of these Terms or of any law.
7. Your documents and your responsibilities
You keep all rights to the documents you scan. You are responsible for having the right to scan and process them, and for complying with any law that applies to the documents and to your use of the output. You must not use Perfect Scan to forge, alter or misrepresent documents, to create records intended to deceive, or for any unlawful purpose.
8. Subscriptions and free pages
Scanning and the on-device Scan are free and unlimited. New users receive a small number of free AI-restored pages. Perfect Scan Pro is an auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings. AI restoration under Pro is included subject to reasonable use: up to 150 AI-restored pages per calendar month per account, which is far above ordinary personal or business use. Beyond that limit, AI restoration pauses until the next month; scanning and on-device enhancement remain unlimited. We may also slow, limit or suspend restoration that is automated, resold, shared across multiple users, or otherwise outside ordinary personal or business use, and we may change the limit on notice. Refunds are handled by Apple under its terms.
9. Service changes and assignment
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of Perfect Scan, including the AI models used for restoration, at any time. We may update these Terms; the "Last updated" date shows the current version, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
We may assign or transfer these Terms, and Perfect Scan itself, to a company or other successor that takes over its operation, without notice to you. The successor then has all of our rights and obligations under these Terms, and the limitations of liability and indemnification in Sections 3 to 5 protect the successor and its owners, officers, employees and contractors as well as us.
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us about Perfect Scan. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.

Our Privacy Policy explains what stays on your iPhone and what is sent for AI restoration.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located there, unless the law of your place of residence requires otherwise.
