Privacy Policy

The short version

Perfect Scan has no accounts, no login and no cloud library. The documents you scan are stored only on your iPhone. When you use AI enhancement, the cropped page image is sent to our enhancement service for processing and deleted as soon as the result is returned.

What stays on your iPhone

• Every document you save, including originals, enhanced pages and thumbnails.
• Recognized text (OCR) used for naming and search. Text recognition runs on-device using Apple's Vision framework.
• Page detection, cropping, perspective correction and on-device cleanup.
• Your settings and your free-scan count.

Deleting the app deletes all of this. Your iPhone's own backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) may include app data according to your device settings; that is your backup, not a Perfect Scan service.

AI enhancement (external processing)

Only when you choose Restore with AI does Perfect Scan send the cropped page image to the Perfect Scan restoration service over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Nothing is uploaded otherwise.

• What is uploaded: the cropped page image only. No document titles, OCR text, location, contacts or identifiers.
• Why: to remove wrinkles, creases, shadows and damage using an AI image model.
• How it is processed: our server forwards the image to fal.ai, an independent third-party AI model hosting provider, inside the request, runs it through a large multimodal AI model, and returns the result to your phone. Processing may take place on servers outside your country.
• Retention: our server processes the image in memory and does not store it. Once the image reaches fal.ai it is outside our control. We send every request with a flag asking fal.ai not to store the page image or the result, but we cannot verify, audit or guarantee that this request is honoured, and we do not monitor fal.ai's systems. What fal.ai does with the image, how long it keeps anything, and whether it uses it for any purpose are governed solely by fal.ai's own terms and privacy policy, not by ours. You should assume that an image you send for AI restoration may be retained by fal.ai, and you should not use Restore with AI on any document you are not willing to have processed on that basis. Perfect Scan itself does not use your images to train any model.
• Your choice: Restore with AI is never automatic, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you tap it. If you do not use it, every step stays on your phone: pages are detected, cropped, straightened and cleaned up locally. If you are not willing to accept the terms above, do not use Restore with AI; every other feature works without it.
• No guarantee: no transmission over the internet and no third-party service is completely secure. We cannot and do not guarantee the security, confidentiality or availability of anything sent for AI restoration, and we are not responsible for the acts or omissions of fal.ai or any other provider. Free AI pages (device check)

To count the free AI-restored pages fairly, the app sends an Apple DeviceCheck token to our server when you use Restore with AI. Our server forwards it to Apple, which keeps two bits of state for your device (the number of free pages used, 0 to 3). The token contains no personal information, cannot identify you, and our server does not store it. Apple describes DeviceCheck in its developer documentation.

AI-restored pages

Every page produced by Restore with AI is permanently labeled "AI Restored by Perfect Scan · May contain errors". The label is part of the image and appears in every export. Exported JPEG and PDF files, and pages saved to Photos, also carry embedded metadata that identifies the image as AI-generated (the IPTC "Digital Source Type" marker plus a plain-language notice) so that other software can recognise it. This metadata describes the file only; it contains nothing about you.

An AI-restored page is generated by an AI model from your photo. It is not a copy of the original document and can differ from it, including in numbers, dates and codes. Perfect Scan checks each result against on-device text recognition and discards results that change what it can read, but this check is not perfect. Always verify an AI-restored page against your original before relying on it. The original capture and the on-device scan remain available on the page. Purchases

Subscriptions are handled by Apple through In-App Purchase. We receive no payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies to the transaction.

Analytics and tracking

Perfect Scan does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

Children

Perfect Scan is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your images are processed, the app will show the updated disclosure before external processing is used.

Who operates Perfect Scan

Perfect Scan is operated by Kamran Imam. If operation is transferred to a company or other successor, this policy continues to apply and the successor becomes the operator.
